Chapter 1: The Faith Iman

1- الإِيْمانُ بِضْعٌ وسَبْعُونَ شُعْبَةً فَأَفْضَلُها قَوْلُ لَاْ إِلَهَ إلاَّ اللهُ وَأَدْنَاهَا إِمَاْطَةُ الأَذَى عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ وَالحَيَاْءُ شُعْبَةٌ مِنَ الإِيمَانِ. البخاري

1. Faith consists of seventy-some branches. The most excellent of these is to say, “La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah),” and the least of these is to remove something harmful from the road. Furthermore, modesty is a branch of faith. (Al-Bukhari)

2- المُؤْمِنُ يَأْلَفُ وَيُؤْلَفُ وَلَاْ خَيْرَ فيِمَنْ لَاْ يَأْلَفُ وَلَاْ يُؤْلَفُ. أحمد

2. The Believer is the one who cooperates and gets along with others and vice versa. There is no benefit for the one who does not get along with others. (Ahmad)

3- إِذَا سَرَّتْكَ حَسَنَتُكَ وَسَاْءَتْكَ سَيِّئتُكَ فَأَنْتَ مُؤْمِنٌ. أحمد

3. When your good deed pleases you and the bad one troubles you - that is the sign of a good believer. (Ahmad)

4- لَيْسَ المُؤْمِنُ بالَّذِيْ يَشْبَعُ وَجَارُهُ جَاْئِعٌ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ. البيهقي

4. He is not a real believer who fills himself knowing his neighbor is hungry. (Al-Bayhaqi)

5- لَيْسَ المُؤْمِنُ بالطَّعَّانِ وَلَاْ اللَّعَّانِ وَلَاْ الفَاْحِشِ وَلَاْ البَذِيءِ. الترمذي

5. The defaming, cursing, foul, and bawdy person is not a believer. (At-Tirmithi)

6- إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الرَّجُلَ يَعْتَاْدُ المَسْجِدَ فَاشْهَدُوْا لَهُ بِالْإِيمَانِ. الترمذي

6. When you see a man coming to the Masjid (Mosque) frequently as a habit, be a witness that he is indeed a believer. (At-Tirmithi)

7- لَاْ إَيْمانَ لِمَنْ لَاْ أَمَانَةَ لَهُ وَلَاْ دِيْنَ لِمَنْ لَاْ عَهْدَ لَهُ. أحمد

7. There is no faith for the one who does not keep the trust given to him, and there is no religion for the one who does not keep his covenant. (Ahmad)

8- لَاْ يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَحَبَّ إِليْهِ مِنْ وَالِدِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ. البخاري

8. None of you truly believes until I (the Prophet) become more beloved to you than your parents, children, and all of mankind. (Al-Bukhari)

9- مَنْ أَحَبَّ للهِ وَأَبْغَضَ للهِ وَأَعْطَى للهِ وَمَنَعَ للهِ فَقَدِ اسْتَكْمَلَ الإِيمَانَ. أبو داود

9. He who loves for Allah’s sake, hates for Allah’s sake, gives for Allah’s sake, and withholds for Allah’s sake has perfected his Iman (Faith). (Abu Daud)

10- مَثَلُ المُؤْمِنِينَ في تَوَاْدِهُم وَتَرَاْحِمُهِمْ وَتَعَاطُفِهِمْ مَثَلُ الجَسَدِ إِذَا اشْتَكَى مِنْهُ عُضْوٌ تَدَاْعَى لَهُ سَائِرُ الجَسَدِ بِالسَّهَرِ وَالحُمَّى. مسلم وأحمد

10. The resemblance of the believers in their love, mercy, and sympathy for each other is like the body. When one part of it complains, the rest of the body responds with insomnia and fever. (Muslim and Ahmad)

11- المُؤْمِنُ مِرْآةُ المُؤْمِن. الطبراني و غيره

11. The believer is like a mirror for his believing brother. (At-Tabraani and others)

12- أَفْضَلُ المُؤْمِنِيْنَ رَجُلٌ سَمْحُ البَيْعِ سَمْحُ الشِّرَاءِ سَمْحُ القَضَاْءِ سَمْحُ الاقْتِضَاْءِ. الطبراني

12. The best of believers is the one who is tolerant in buying, selling, and discharging debts and in exacting debts. (At-Tabaraani)

13- نَفَسُ المُؤْمِنِ مُعَلَّقَةٌ بِدَيْنِهِ حَتَّى يُقْضَى عَنْهُ. أحمد

13. The soul of the believer will not ascend to paradise until his debt is paid off. (Ahmad)

14- وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ إِخْوَانِي الَّذِيْنَ آمَنُوا بِيْ وَلَمْ يَرَوْنِيْ. أحمد

14. I wish to see my brothers: those who believe in me though they have not seen me. (Ahmad)

15- ذَاْقَ طَعْمَ الإِيمَانِ مَنْ رَضِيَ بِاللهِ رَبّاً وَبِالْإِسْلَاْمِ دِيْناً وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ رَسُوْلاً. مسلم

15. The one who recognizes Allah as (his/her) Lord, Islam as his way of life, and Muhammad as Allah’s messenger has definitely tasted the sweetness of Iman. (Muslim)

16- جَدِّدُوْا إِيمَاْنَكُمْ قِيْلَ يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ كَيْفَ نُجَدِّدُ إِيمَاْنَنَا قَالَ أَكْثِرُوْا مِنْ قَوْلِ لَاْ إِلَهَ إِلَاْ اللهُ. أحمد

16. “Renew your faith.” They said, “How could we renew our faith?” He said, “Increase saying, ‘La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah).’” (Ahmad)
