الفصل الثالث عشر: التَّوْبَةُ وَالاِسْتِغْفَاْرُ

Chapter 13: Repentance and Istighfar (seeking forgiveness from Allah)

239- كُلُّ ابْنِ آَدَمَ خَطَّاءٌ وَخَيْرُ الخَطَّائِيْنَ التَّوابُونَ.الدارمي

239. Every son of Adam commits errors; but the best of those who commit errors are the ones who repent. (Al-Daarmi)

240- إِنَّهُ ليُغَانُ عَلَى قَلْبِي فَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ فِي اليَوْمِ سَبْعِيْنَ مَرَّةً.مسلم

240. I feel hardness in my heart, so I seek forgiveness seventy times a day. (Muslim)

241- لَوْ أَخْطَأْتُمْ حَتَّى تَبْلُغَ خَطَاْيَاكُمُ السَّمَاءَ ثُمَّ تُبْتُم لَتَابَ اللهُ عَلَيْكُمْ.ابن ماجه

241. If you commit sins until they reach the sky then you turn to Allah in repentance, Allah will accept. (Ibn Maajah)

242- التَّائِبُ مِنَ الذَّنْبِ كَمَنْ لَاْ ذَنْبَ لَهُ.الطبراني

242. He who repents for the sins he committed, is like the one who never did it. (At-Tabaraani)

243- إِذَا تَابَ العَبْدُ أَنْسَى اللهُ الحَفَظَةَ ذُنُوبَهُ وَأَنْسَى ذَلِكَ جَوَارِحَهُ وَمَعَاْلِمَ الأَرْضِ حَتَّى يَلْقَى اللهَ وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ شَاْهِدٌ.ابن عساكر

243. When a person repents, Allah will cause the Angels, his body, and the places where the sins were committed to forget, until he meets Allah with no witnesses against him. (Ibn Asaaker)

244- سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ مَاْ كَفَّارَةُ الاغْتِيابِ قَالَ: أَنْ تَسْتَغْفِرَ اللهَ لِمَنَ اغْتَبْتَهُ.الطحاوي

244. The Prophet was asked, “What is the atonement of the Ghibah (backbiting)?” He said, “To ask Allah’s forgiveness for the one whom you backbite.”(Al-Tahhawi)

245- مَنْ اسْتَغْفَرَ اللهَ دُبُرَ كُلّ صَلَاةٍ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَاْلَ أسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الذَّيْ لَاْ إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الحَيَّ القّيُّومَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ غُفِرَتْ ذُنُوْبَهُ وَإِنْ كَاْنَ قَدْ فَرَّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ.أبو يعلى

245. He who does Istighfar after each Salah (prayer) three times saying: “Astaghfirullahal ladhee laa ilaaha illa huwal haiyyal qaiyyooma wa atoobu ilaiyhi, I ask Allah the one Who there is no god but Him, the Everlasting, the Eternal, and I repent to Him,” will be pardoned, even if he has left the battlefield of Jihad (which is a great sin in Islam). (Abu Ya’la)

246- مَنْ أَكْثَرَ الاسْتِغْفَارَ جَعَلَ اللهُ لَهُ مِنْ كُلِّ هَمٍّ فَرَجاً وَمِنْ كُلِّ ضِيْقٍ مَخْرَجَاً وَرَزَقَهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَاْ يَحْتَسِبُ. أبو داود

246. He who makes a lot of Istighfar, Allah gives him comfort out of every worry, and relief out of every distress, and sustenance from unexpected sources. (Abu Daud)

247- مَاْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللهِ مِنَ الشّابِ التَّائِبِ.الديلمي

247. Nothing is more beloved to Allah than a repentant young man. (Ad-Dailami)

248- إِنَّ اللهَ يَبْسُطُ يَدَهُ بِاللًّيِلْ لِيَتُوبَ مُسِيءُ النَّهارِ وَيَبْسُطُ يَدَهُ بِالنَّهَارِ لِيَتُوبَ مُسِيءُ اللَّيِلْ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ مَغْربِها .مسلم

248. Verily, Allah spreads his hand during the nighttime for the guilty of the daytime to repent, and spreads his hand during the day for the guilty of the night to repent, until the sun rises from the west (which is a sign of the Day of Resurrection). (Muslim)

249- سَيِّدُ الاسْتِغْفَارِ أَنْ يَقُولَ العَبْدُ اللَّهُمَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَاْ إَلَهَ إِلَّا أَنَتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِالنِّعْمَةِ وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي فَاْغَفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لَاْ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ.البخاري

249. The best Istighfar is to say, “Oh Allah, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your slave. I am trying my best and await Your promise as much as I can. I acknowledge Your favors upon me, and I acknowledge my mistakes, so please forgive me, none forgives the sins but You.” (Al-Bukhari)
