الفصل الثالث و العشرون: الأَسْمَاْءُ

Chapter 23: Names

376- إِنَّ مِنْ أَحَّبِ أَسْمائِكُمْ إِلَى اللهِ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمنِ. مسلم

376. Allah loves these two names most: Abdullah and Abdurrahman. (Muslim)

377- تَسَمَّوْا بِأَسْمَاءِ الأَنْبِيَاءِ وَأَحَبُّ الأَسْمَاءِ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحمْنِ وَأَصْدَقُهَا حَارِثٌ وَهُمَام وَأَقْبَحُهَا حَرْبٌ وَمُرَّةٌ. أحمد

377. Name yourself with the names of the Prophets; the most beloved names to Allah are Abdullah and Abdurrahman; The most truthful one is Haareth and Humam, and the worst of them is Harb (war) and Murrah (bitter). (Ahmad)

378- إِنَّكُمْ تُدْعَوْنَ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ بَأَسْمَائِكُمْ وَأَسْمَاءِ آبَائِكُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا أَسْمَاءَكُمْ. أبو داود

378. You will be called on the Day of Resurrection by your names and the names of your fathers, so choose good names. (Abu Daud)

379- أخنع الأسماء عند الله يوم القيامة رجل تسمى "ملك الأملاك" لا مالك إلا الله . متفق عليه

379. The most detested name to Allah on the day of Judgment is Maliku-l-Amlak (the owner of all things). (Agreed upon)

380- لَاْ يَقُلْ أَحَدُكُمْ رَبِّي وَلْيَقُلْ سَيِّدِيْ وَمَوْلَايَ وَلَا يَقُلْ أَحَدُكُمْ عَبْدِيْ وَأَمَتِيْ وَلْيَقُلْ فَتَاْيَ وَفَتَاْتِي وَغُلَاْمِيْ. ابو داود

380. No one should say ‘my lord’ to a human, but you may say my master or care taker; and none should say ‘my slave’, but should say my lad or my girl. (Abu Daud)

381- كَانَتْ ابْنةٌ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يُقَالَ لَهَا عَاصِيَةٌ فَسَمَّاهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ وَقَالَ أَنْتِ جَمِيْلَةٌ. الترمذي

381. Umar Ibn Al-Khattab had a daughter called A‘assyah (the disobedient), so the Prophet named her Jameelah (beautiful). (At-Tirmithi)

382- لَا تُسَمِّ غُلَامَكَ رَبَاْحاً وَلَا يَسَارَاً وَلاَ أَفْلَحَ وَلَا نَافِعَاً. مسلم

382. Do not name your child Rabah nor Yasar nor Aflah nor Nafi’. (Muslim)

383- تُسَمُّوْنَ أَوْلَادَكُمْ مُحَمَّداً ثُمَّ تَلْعَنُوهُمْ! مسلم و الترمذي

383. How come you name your children Muhammad then curse them!?! (Muslim and At-Tirmithi)

384- تَسَمَّوْا بِاسِمْي وَلَا تُكَنُّوا بِكُنِْيَتي فَإِنَّما أَنا قَاسِمٌ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ. البخاري ومسلم

384. Name your children with my name (Muhammad), but do not surname after my surname (Abu Al-Qasim which means the distributer), I am the distributer among you. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

385- قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ وُلِدَ لِي بَعْدَكَ وَلَدٌ أُسَمِّيه بِاسْمِّكَ وَأُكَنِّيهِ بِكُنْيَتِكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ. ابو داود و الترمذي

385. Someone asked the Prophet, “Oh Messenger of Allah, if I have a child after you, can I name him with your name and surname?” He said, “Yes.” (Abu Daud and At-Tirmithi)

386- عَنْ سَعِيدٍ بنِ المُسَيِّبِ قَالَ قَدِمَ جَدِّي حَزْنٌ عَلَى النَبِيِّ فَقَالَ مَا اسْمُكَ قَالَ اسْمِيْ حَزْنٌ قَالَ بَلْ أَنْتَ سَهْلٌ فَقَالَ مَا أَنَا بِمُغَيِّرٍ اسْمَاً سَمَانِّيِه أَبِي قَالَ ابنُ الُمِّسيبِ فَمَا زَالَتِ الحَزُونَة بَعْدُ. البخاري

386. Sa’eed Bin Al-Musaiyyeb said, “My grandfather, Hazn (sadness), came to the Prophet, so he asked him, ‘What is your name?’ He said, ‘Hazn.’ The Prophet said: no, your name is Sahl (easiness).’ He said, ’I will not change a name my father had given me.’ So, the sadness still remained.” (Al-Bukhari)
