Chapter 24: Prohibited Things

387- لَأنْ يُطْعَنْ فِي رَأْسِ رَجُلٍ بِمَخِيِّطٍ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ خَيرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمَسَّ امْرَأَةً لَا تَحِلُّ لَهُ. الطبراني

387. It is better for a man to be stabbed with a spear of iron than to touch a foreign woman’s hand (a woman who is not a relative and whom he can marry). (At-Tabraani)

388- لَا تَقَبِّحُوا الوَجْهَ فإَنَّ بنُ آدَمَ خُلِقَ عَلى صُورَةِ الرَّحْمَنِ تعالى. الطبراني

388. Do not blaspheme the face; the son of Adam was created according to the design of the Merciful, Exalted. (At-Tabaraani)

389- مَنْ حَلَفَ بِيَمِينٍ صَبْرٍ كَاذِبَةٍ لِيَقْتِطَعِ بِهَا مَاْلِ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ لِقَيَ اللهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ. فقال: يا رسول الله! فما لمن تركها وهو يعلم أنه حق، قال: الجنة، قال: فإني أشهدك أني قد تركتها . أبو نعيم والطبراني

389. He who swears with a false oath to seize the money of a Muslim will meet Allah’s Wrath (in the doomsday). A man stood and said, “Ya, Rasulullah, what is for the one who leaves it alone?” He said, “Al-Junnah.” The man said, “Bear witness, I will never take a false oath again.” (Naim and At-Tabraani)

390- مَا خَلَا رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ غَيِرْ ذَاتِ رَحِمٍ مُحْرَمٍ إِلَّا كَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ ثَالِثُهُمَا. الترمذي

390. Whenever a man sits alone with a woman not a blood relative to him, satan will be their third (attendant). (At-Tirmithi)

391- احْفَظْ عَوْرَتَكَ إِلَّا مِنْ زَوْجَتِكَ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ يَمِيُنكَ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ كَانَ أَحَدُنَا خَالِيْاً قَالَ فَاللهُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ تَسْتَحِيَ مِنْهُ. الترمذي

391. Guard your modesty except from your wife, and what your right hand possesses (i.e., the woman they used to capture in a battle and marry without a dower). Someone said, “And if I am alone by myself?” He said, “Allah has the right to be shied from.” (At-Tirmithi)

392- لاَ تَحَاسَدُوا وَلَا تَنَاجَشُوا وَلَا تَبَاغَضُوا وَلَا تَدَابَرُوا وَلاَ يَبِعْ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَى بَيْعِ بَعْضٍ وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللهِ إِخْوَانَاً. مسلم

392. Do not envy each other; do not backbite each other; do not detest each other; do not turn your back against each other; do not out sell each other’s merchandise; Oh servants of Allah, be brothers. (Muslim)

393- إِنَّما نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ صَوْتَيْنِ أَحْمَقَيْنِ فَاجِرَيْنِ صَوْتِ رَنَّةٍ عِنْدَ مُصِيَبةٍ وَصَوْتِ مِزْمَارٍ عِنْدَ نِعْمَةٍ. أبو يعلى

393. I prevented you from making two rebellious unwise sounds: the sound of wailing when disaster happens, and the sound of the reed pipe when grace comes. (Abu Ya’la)

394- إِذَا الْتَقَى المُسْلِمَانِ بِسَيْفِهِمَا فَالقَاتِلُ وَالمَقْتُولِ فِي النَّارِ قِيْلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا القَاتِلُ فَمَا بَالُ المَقْتُولِ قَالَ كَانَ حَرِيْصَاً عَلَى قَتْلِ صَاحِبِهِ. البخاري

394. If Muslims intend to kill one another, the killer and the killed will be in hell. It was said, “We know the killer is in hell so what about the killed one?” He said, “He was keen to kill his friend.” (Al-Bukhari)

395- ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا يَدْخُلُونَ الجَنَّةَ: مُدْمِنُ خَمْرٍ وَقَاطِعُ رَحِمٍ وَمُصَدِّقٌ بِالسِّحِرْ. أحمد

395. Three types of people will not enter Jannah: the one who is addicted to alcohol, the one who cuts relations with his kindred, and the one who is convicted with magic. (Ahmad)

396- أَوَّلُ ثَلَاثةٍ يَدْخُلُونَ النَّارَ: أَمِيرٌ مُسَلَّطٌ وَذوُ ثَرْوَةٍ لَا يُؤَدِيّ حَقَّ اللهِ في مَالِهِ وَفَقِيٌر فَخُورٌ. ابن خزيمة

396. The first three who will enter the fire are: the tyrant ruler, the rich who does not pay Allah’s right of his money, and the arrogant poor. (Ibn Khuzaimah)

397- كُلُّ المُسْلِمِ عَلَىَ المُسْلِمِ حَرَامُ مَالُهُ وَدَمُهُ وَعِرْضُهُ. البخاري

397. It is Haram for a Muslim to take another Muslim’s money, shed his blood, and hurt his dignity. (Al-Bukhari)

398- مَنْ جُعِلَ قَاضِيَاً بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَكَأنَّما ذُبِحَ بِغَيْرِ سِكِّيٍن. أحمد وأبو داود وابن ماجة والحاكم

398. He who is assigned to judge between people is like the one who is slaughtered without a knife. (Ahmad, Abu Daud, Ibn Maajah, and Al-Haakim)

399- تَنَزَّهُوا مِنَ البَوْلِ فَإِنَّ عَامَّةَ عَذَابِ القَبْرِ مِنْهُ. الدارقطني

399. Clean your selves well from urine because the torment in the grave is mostly because of it. (Ad-Daarqatni)

400- إِنَّ يَسِيرَ الرِّيَاءِ شِرْكٌ. وَإِنَّ مَنْ عَادى للهِ وَليّاً، فَقَدْ بَارَزَ اللهِ بِالْمُحَارَبَةِ. إِنَّ اللهَ يُحِبُّ الأَبْرَارَ الأَتْقِيَاءَ الأَخْفِيَاءَ، الَّذِينَ ، إِذَا غَابُوا، لَمْ يُفْتَقَدُوا. وَإِنْ حَضَرُوا، لَمْ يُعْرَفُوا. قُلُوبُهُمْ مَصَابِيحُ الْهُدَى. يَخْرُجونَ مِنْ كُلِّ غَبْرَاءَ مُظْلِمَةٍ. الطبراني والحاكم وغيرهما

400. A little showing off is (considered) polytheism; and whosoever became an enemy to Allah’s friend, he duels Allah in open war; Allah loves the righteous ones, the God-fearing, the hidden, those who if they are absent, no one misses them, and if they are present, they are unnoticed, their hearts are the bulbs of the guidance, and they are delivered from every doubtful, oppressive fitnah. (At-Tabaraani, Al-Haakim, and others)

401- مَن اسْتَمَعَ إلى حَدِيثِ قَوْمٍ وَهُمْ لَهُ كَارِهُونَ صُبَّ في أذُنِهِ الآنُكُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ، وَمَنْ صَوَّرَ صُوَرةً عُذِّبَ وَكُلِّفَ أَنْ يَنْفُخَ فِيهَا الرُّوحَ وَلَيْسَ بِنَافِخٍ. البخاري

401. He who eavedrops on another’s conversation, boiled lead will be poured in his ear on the Day of Judgment; and he who makes an image (of a living thing) will be punished and ordered to evoke life in it, but he will not be able to. (Al-Bukhari)

402- لِكُلِّ غَادِرٍ لِواءٌ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ عِنْدَ اسْتِهِ يُقَالُ هذِهِ غَدْرَةُ فُلاَنٍ أَلاَ وَلاَ غَادِرٌ أَعْظَمُ غَدْراً مِنْ أَمِيرِ عَامَّةٍ. مسلم

402. Every deceitful person will be punished by having a flag of deceit placed on his rear, with the writing, “This one deceived people.” Verily, the most deceitful one is a leader who deceives his people. (Muslim)

403- مَنْ أَتَى عَرَّافاً أَوْ كَاهِناً فَصَدَّقَهُ بِما يَقُولُ فَقَدْ كَفَرَ بِما أُنْزِلَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ. أحمد

403. He who comes to a fortuneteller and believes in him, denies what was revealed to Muhammad. (Ahmad)

404- خِلَالٌ مِنْ خِلَالِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الطَّعْنُ فِي الْأَنْسَابِ وَالنِّيَاحَةُ. البخاري

404. These attributes are of jahiliah: defaming of the ancestry and wailing over the dead. (Al-Bukhari)

405- إِنَّ اللهَ يُعَذِّبُ الَّذِينَ يُعَذِّبُونَ النَّاسَ في الدُّنيَا. مسلم

405. Allah will torture those who tortured the people in this life. (Muslim)

406- سِبَابُ المُسْلِمِ فُسُوقٌ وَقِتَالُهُ كُفْرٌ. البخاري

406 Insulting a Muslim derails (from Al-Islam), and fighting a Muslim is kufr (disbelief). (Al-Bukhari)

407- اذْكُرُوا مَحَاسِنَ مَوْتَاكُمْ وَكُفُّوا عَنْ مَسَاوِيْهِمْ. الحاكم

407. Mention the good (deeds) of your dead, and refrain from (mentioning) their bad (deeds). (Al-Haakim)

408- لاَ تَسُبُّوا الأَمْوَاتَ فَإِنَّهُم قَدْ أَفْضَوْا إِلى مَا قَدَّمُوا. البخاري

408. Do not curse the dead; they already got what they deserve. (Al-Bukhari)

409- مَنْ عَادَى ليَ وَلِيّاً فَقَدْ آَذَنْتُهُ بِالحَرْبِ. البخاري

409. (Allah says in Hadith Qudsi:) He who opposes a walii (saint or friend to Allah), I am at war with him. (Al-Bukhari)

410- ثَلاَثَةٌ لاَ يَنْظُرُ اللهُ إِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ المُسْبِلُ وَالمنَّانُ والمُنْفِقُ سِلْعَتَهُ بِالحَلْفِ الكَاْذِبِ. مسلم

410. There are three types of people who Allah will never look at on the Day of Resurrection: the one who drags his garment to show off, the one who constantly reminds people of his favors to them, and the one who falsely swears by Allah to get his merchandise sold. (Muslim)

411- مَنْ أَعَانَ عَلى خُصُوَمةٍ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ كَانَ فِي سَخَطِ اللهِ حتَّى يَنْزَعِ. الحاكم

411. He who promotes hostility dishonestly will earn Allah’s Wrath until he desists. (Al-Haakim)
