Chapter 10: The Zakat and the Charity

176- حَصِّنوُا أَمْوَاَلُكْمِ بالزَّكاَةِ وَدَاْوُوْا مَرْضَاكُمْ بِالصَّدَقَةِ واسْتَقْبِلُوا أَمْوَاجَ البَلاءِ بالدُّعَاءِ والتَّضَرُّعِ. أبو داود

176. Protect your money by paying its Zakat; cure your patients by giving charity; and meet the waves of tragedies with prayer and supplication. (Abu Daud)

177- الصَّدَقَةُ على المِسْكِيِنِ صَدَقَةٌ وعلى ذِي الرَّحِمِ اثْنَتَانِ: صَدَقَةٌ وَصِلَةٌ.الترمذي

177. The charity for the poor one is one deed, while the charity for a close relative has two rewards: charity, and fostering good relations. (At-Tirmithi)

178- مَا مَنَعَ قَوْمٌ الزَّكاةَ إلِاَّ اْبَتلاهُمُ الله بِالسّنِيِنَ. الطبراني

178. Whenever a group of people ban the Zakat, Allah will send upon them famine. (At-Tabaraani)

179- مَاْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ لا يُؤَدّي زَكَاْةَ مَاِلهِ إلاَّ مَثَلَ لَهُ يَوْمَ القِيامَةِ شُجَاعاً أَقْرَعَ حتَّى ُيطِوَّقَ بِهِ عُنُقَهُ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ عَلَيْنا الِنَّبُّي ) وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا لَهُمْ بَلْ هُوَ شَرٌّ لَهُمْ سَيُطَوَّقُونَ مَا بَخِلُوا بِهِ يَومَ القِيَامَةِ (… الترمذي

179. Whosoever does not pay the Zakat of his money, his money will take the shape of a poisonous hornless serpent that will besiege his neck in the hereafter. Then the Prophet read the following verse: “And let not those deem, who are niggardly in giving away that which Allah has granted them out of His grace, that it is good for them; nay, it is worse for them; they shall have that whereof they were niggardly made to cleave to their necks on the resurrection day; and Allah's is the heritage of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is aware of what you do.” [Al-Imran/180] (At-Tirmithi)

180- رُوِيَ أَنَّ رَجُلاً قَاَل للنَّبّي أَخِبْرْنيِ بِعَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُنِي الَجَّنةَ قَالَ تَعْبُدُ اللَه لاَ تُشِرْكُ بِهِ شَيْئاً وَتُقِيْمُ الصَّلاَةَ وتُؤْتِي الزَّكَاةَ وَتَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ. البخاري ومسلم

180. It was narrated that a man said to the Prophet, “Tell me a deed that will make me enter Jannah (the Paradise).” The Prophet said, “Worship Allah only and no other with him, establish Salah (prayer), pay Zakat, and do well to your relatives.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

181- مَنْ أَدَّى زَكَاَة مِالهِ فَقَدْ ذَهَبَ عَنْهُ شَرُّهُ. الطبراني.

181. The evil leaves the money of the one who pays Zakat. (At-Tabaraani)

182- العَاِمُل عَلى الصَّدَقةَ بِاْلحَقِّ لِوَجْهِ اللِه عَزَّ وَجَلَّ كَالغَازِيْ فِي سَبْيِلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلى أَهْلِهِ. أحمد

182. He who collects the charity for Allah’s sake is like the one who fights for Allah’s sake until he comes back to his family. (Ahmad)

183- مَا نَقَصتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ وَمَاْ مَدَّ عَبْدٌ يَدَهُ بِصَدَقَةٍ إِلّا أُلِقْيَتْ فِي يَدِ اللهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقَعَ فِي يَدِ السَّائِلِ وَلَاْ فَتَحَ عَبْدٌ بَاْبَ مَسْأَلَةٍ لَهُ عنَهْا غِنًى إِلّا فَتَحَ الُله عَليهِ بَابَ فَقْرٍ. الطبراني

183. The charity never reduces the money; whenever a man gives a charity, Allah accepts it before it reaches the poor’s hands. And if a man begs continuously although he is not in need, Allah will open doors of poverty for him. (At-Tabaraani)

184- كُلُّ امِرئٍ في ظِلِّ صَدَقَتِهِ حَتّى يُفْصَلَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ. أحمد

184. Every one is sheltered by his/her charity (on the Day of Judgment) until (Allah) judges among people. (Ahmad)

185- لَا يُخِرجُ أَحَدُ شَيْئاً مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ حَتّى يَفُكَّ عَنْهَا لحِيْي سَبْعِيَن شَيْطَاناً. أحمد

185. Anyone ever who gives any charity, he would break seventy jaws of the devils. (Ahmad)

186-اليَدُ العُلْيا خَيْرٌ مِنَ اليَدِ السُّفْلى وابدَأْ بمِنَ تعَوُلُ وخَيرُ الصَّدَقَةِ عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنىً وَمَنْ يَتَعَفَّفْ يُعِفُّهُ اللُه وَمَنْ يَسْتَغَنْ يُغْنِهِ اللهُ. البخاري.

186. The superior hand (that gives money) is better than the inferior hand (that takes money); start (giving charities) to people you look after. The best charity is from the rich; and he who shows chastity (does not accept illegal living), Allah makes him chaste; and he who shows sufficiency (when he is in need of money), Allah makes him rich. (Al-Bukhari)

187- للِسَّائِلُ حَقٌّ وإِنْ جَاَء عَلى فَرَسٍ. أبو داود

187. He who asks for money has a right even if he comes riding a horse. (Abu Daud)

188- خِصْلَتانِ لا يَجْتَمِعانِ في مُؤْمِنٍ البُخْلُ وَسُوءُ الخُلُقِ.الترمذي

188. Two characteristics never meet in a believer: bad manners and stinginess. (At-Tirmithi)

189- مَنْ جَاَءهُ مِنْ أَخِيْهِ مَعْروُفٌ مِنْ غَيْرِ إِشْرافٍ وَلَا مَسْألَة فَلْيَقْبَلْهُ وَلَاْ يَرُدَّهُ فإنَّما هُوَ رِزْقٌ سَاقَهُ الُله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَيْهِ.أحمد

189. He who receives a gift from his brother without wishing or asking, should accept, and not refuse it, because it is a benefit that is driven from Allah to him. (Ahmad)

190- مَنْ سَأَلَ مِنْ غَيْرِ فَقْرٍ فِإَّنما يَأْكُلُ الَجْمَر.أحمد

190. He who asks for a charity when he is not poor is verily eating hot coal. (Ahmad)

191- إنمَّا الغِنَى غِنَى القَلْبِ وَالَفْقُر فَقْرُ القَلْبِ.ابن حبان

191. Truly, the richness is the richness of the heart, and the poverty is the poverty of the heart. (Ibn Habban)

192- مَنْ نَفَّسَ عَنْ غَرِيِمِهِ أَوْ مَحَا عَنْهُ كَاْنَ فِي ظِلِّ الَعْرشِ يَوْمَ القِيامَةِ.البغوي

192. He who relieves his debtor will be under the shade of the Throne on the Day of Resurrection. (Al-Bughwi)

193- إِنِّ الصَّدَقَةَ لتُطِفْئُ غَضَبَ الرَّبِ وَتَدْفَعُ مِيَتَة السُّوءِ.الترمذي.

193. Verily, the charity cools off Allah’s anger, and pushes away the bad ending. (At-Tirmithi)

194- مَا مِنْ يَوْمٍ يُصْبِحُ فيِهِ العِبادُ إلا وَمَلكَانِ يُنْزِلَانِ فَيَقُولُ أَحَدُهُما اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِ مُنْفِقَاً خَلَفاً وَيَقُوُل الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَ أَعْطِ مُمِسكاً تلفاً. متفق عليه.

194. Every day, when people wake up, two Angels descend; one says, “Oh Allah, replace the money of the one who gives for Your sake”; and the other says, “Oh Allah, ruin the money of the one who does not give for Your sake.” (Agreed on)

195- إنَّ الصَّدَقَةَ لتُطِفئ عَنْ أَهْلِها حَرَّ القُبُورِ وَإنَّما يَسْتَظِّل الُمْؤمْنُ يَوْمَ القِيامَةِ في ظِلِّ صَدَقَتِهِ. الطبراني.

195. Verily, charity extinguishes the heat of the graves, and the Muslim seeks shelter in his charity in the Day of Judgment. (At-Tabaraani)

196- أَفْضَلُ دِيْنِاٍر أَنْفَقْتَهُ في سَبِيِل اللهَ وَدِيْنارٍ أَنْفَقْتَهُ في رَقَبَةٍ وَدِيْنارٍ تَصَدَّقْتَ بهِ عَلى مِسْكِيِن وَدِيْنارٍ أَنْفَقَتُه عَلى أَهْلِك أَعْظَمُها أَجْراً الذي أَنَفْقَتُه عَلى أَهْلِكَ. مسلم

196. The best dinar is the one you spend for the sake of Allah, the one you spend to set free someone, the one you give to a poor man, and the one you spend on your family; and the best rewarded (from Allah) is the one you spend on your family. (Muslim)

197- بَاْكِرُوا بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَإنَّ البَلاءَ لَاْ يَتَخَطَّاهَا.الطبراني

197. Hasten in the giving of alms because tragedies can not overcome it. (At-Tabaraani)

198- أَلَاْ أُدُّلَك عَلَى أَبْوَابِ الخْيَرْ قُلْتُ: َبلَى يَاْ رَسُولَ الله قَاْلَ الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئ الَخِطْيئةَ كَمَاْ يُطْفِئُ الماءُ النَّارَ. الطبراني و غيره

198. The Prophet said to Mu’az Ibn Jabal, “Would you like me to guide you to the doors of goodness?” He [Ibn Jabal] said, “Yes, Oh Messenger of Allah.” The Prophet said, “Fasting is a protection, and the charity extinguishes the sins just as the water extinguishes the fire.” (At-Tabaraani and others)

199- يَاْ رَسُولَ اللِه أَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ قَاْلَ جُهْدُ الُمِقلِّ وَأبْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعْولُ.أبو داود

199. “Oh Messenger of Allah, which charity is the best?” He said, “The charity of the one who has little money; and start with the people you are responsible for.” (Abu Daud)

200- أَفْضَلُ الَأعْمَاْلِ إِدْخَالُ السُّرُوِر عَلى الُمْؤمِنِ كَسَوْتَ عَوْرَتَهُ أَوْ أَشْبَعْتَ جُوَعَتهُ أَوْ قَضَيْتَ لَهُ حَاجَةً.الطبراني

200. The best of deeds is when you cause happiness to a believer, either by clothing him, feeding him, or doing him a service. (At-Tabaraani)

201- أَيَّما مُسْلِمٍ كَسَاْ مُسْلِماً ثَوْباً عَلى عُرْيٍ كَسَاْهُ اللُه مِنْ خِضْرِ الَجَّنةِ وَأيَّما مُسْلِمٍ أَطْعَمَ مُسْلِماً عَلى جُوْعٍ أَطْعَمَهُ اللِهْ مِنْ ثِمَارِ الجَنَّةِ وَأيَّما مُسْلِمٍ سَقَى مُسْلِماً عَلى ظَمَأٍ سَقَاْهُ الله مِنَ الرَّحِيْقِ الَمْختُومِ. أحمد في مسنده وأبو داود والترمذي

201. Any Muslim who clothes other Muslims in need of clothing, Allah will clothe him from the green of Paradise. The Muslim who feeds another Muslim in need of food, Allah will feed him from the fruits of Paradise. The Muslim who gives water to another Muslim in need of water, Allah will give him a drink from the Sealed Nectar. (Ahmad and Abu Daud and At-Tirmithi)

202- سُئِلَ النَّبُّي أيُّ الِإسْلامِ خيرٌ؟ قَاْلَ: تُطْعِمُ الطَّعامَ وَتَقْرَأُ السَّلَاَم على مَنْ عَرَفْتَ وَمَنْ لَمْ تَعِرْفْ.البخاري ومسلم

202. The Prophet was asked, “What is the best deed in Islam?” He answered, “To feed others and to offer Salam to the ones you know and the ones you don’t know.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

203- قُلْتُ يا رَسُولَ الله إَنَّ أِمُيّ ماتَتْ فأَيّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ قَاْلَ الَماءُ فَحَفَرَ بِئْراً وَقَاْلَ هَذَا لِأُمّ سَعْدٍ. أبي دَاوُد والحاكم

203. Sa’d Ibn Ubadah said to the Prophet, “Oh Messenger of Allah, my mother has died, which charity is the best (to do in this case)?” He said, “Water.” Then, Sa’d dug a well and said, “This is for Sa’d’s mother.”

204- مَاْ مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَغْرِسُ غَرْسَاً أَوْ يَزْرًعُ زَرْعاً فَيَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ طَيْرٌ َأوْ إِنْسَانٌ إِلَّا كَانَ لَهُ بِهِ صَدَقَةٌ.البخاري ومسلم

204. Whenever a Muslim plants a crop and birds or humans eat from it, his action is considered as a charity. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
