Chapter 9: The Virtues of Hajj (pilgrimage) and Umra (minor Hajj)

152- مَنْ حَجَّ فَلَمْ يَرْفُثْ وَلَمْ يَفْسُقْ خَرَجَ مِنْ ذُ نُوبِهِ كَيَوْمَ وَلَدْ تهُ أُمُّهُ. البخاري

152. He who does Hajj without doing any obscene or wicked deeds, will be free from all mistakes, just as the day he was born. (Al-Bukhari)

153- العُمْرَةُ إِلَى العُمْرَةِ كَفَّارَةٌ لما بَيْنَهُمَا وَالحَجُّ المَبْرُوُر لَيْسَ لَهُ جَزَاءٌ إِلَّا الجَنَّةَ. البخاري

153. Umra to Umra atones for what is in between, and the reward of the valid Hajj is Al-Jannah. (Al-Bukhari)

154- تَابِعُوا بَيْنَ الحَجِّ وَالعُمْرَةِ فِإنَّهُمَا يَنْفِيَانِ الْفَقْرَ وَالذُّنُوبَ كَمَا يَنْفِي الكِيْرُ خُبْثَ الحَدِيدِ والذَّهَبِ والفِضَّةِ وَلَيْسَ لِلْحِجَّةِ الَمْبَرُورَةِ ثَوَاباً إلاَّ الجَنَّةُ. الترمذي

154. Perform Hajj and Umra frequently, they blow away poverty and sins, just as fire purifies iron, gold, and silver of its impurities. The reward of the accepted Hajj is Paradise. (At-Tirmithi)

155- اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ للْحَاجِّ وَلِمَنْ اسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُ الحَاجُّ. الحاكم

155. Oh Allah! Pardon the pilgrim and he whom the pilgrim asks pardon for. (Al-Haakim)

156- عُمْرَةٌ فِي رَمَضَانَ تَعْدِلُ حِجَّةً , أَوْ حِجَّةً مَعِيَ. البخاري ومسلم

156. The Umra in Ramadan equals a Hajj, or a Hajj with me. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) 157- حَجٌّ مَبْرُورٌ لَيْسَ لَهُ جَزَاْءٌ إِلَّا الجَنَّةَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا الحَجُّ المَبْرُورُ قَالَ إَطْعَامُ الطَّعَامِ وَإِفْشَاْءُ السَّلَامِ. أحمد

157. The reward for the accepted Hajj is Paradise. They said, “Oh Messenger of Allah! What is the accepted Hajj?” He said, “Feeding, greeting, and spreading peace (taking care of each other).” (Ahmad)

158- مَا أفْعرَ حَاجٌّ قَطُّ. الطبراني

158. The pilgrim will never be in want. (At-Tabaraani)

159- سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ أَيُّ الأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ قَاْلَ: العَجُّ: وَالثَّجُّ. ابن ماجه

159. The Prophet was asked, “Which deeds are the best?” He said, “Saying Talbiyah (Labaika Allahuma labbaik labaika lasharika laka labbaik innalhamda wanniamata laka wal mulk lasharika lakk) and sacrificing animals.” (Ibn Maajah)

160- يُنْزِّلُ اللهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ عَلَى حُجَّاجِ بَيْتِهِ الحَرَاْمِ عِشْرِيْنَ وَمَائَةَ رَحْمَةٍ سِتّينَ لِلْطَّائِفِينَ وَأَرْبَعِينَ للْمُصَلِّينَ وَعُشْرِينَ لِلنَّاِظِرِيْنَ. البيهقي

160. Allah sends upon the visitors of His House (Ka’ba) everyday one hundred twenty graces, sixty for circumambulation, forty for the praying ones, and twenty for those who are watching (the Ka’ba). (Al-Bayhaqi)

161-يَأْتِي الرُّكْنُ يَوْمَ القِيَامْةِ أَعْظَمَ مِنْ أَبِي قُبَيْسٍ لَهُ لِسَانٌ وَشَفَتَانِ. أحمد

161. The Black Stone will come on the Day of Judgment greater than the Abi Qubais Mountain and will have a tongue and two lips. (Ahmad)

162- وَاللهِ لَيَبْعَثَنَّهُ اللهُ يَوْمَ القِيْامَةِ لَهُ عَيْنانِ يُبْصِرُ بِهِمَا وَلِسَانٌ يَنْطِقُ بِهِ يَشْهَدُ عَلَى مَنِ اسْتَلَمَهُ بِحَقٍّ. ابن خزيمة.

162. I swear by Allah that He will send it (the Black Stone) with two eyes that see through and a tongue that bears witness for those who touched it faithfully. (Ibn Khuzaymah)

163- مَاْ مُلَبٍّ يُلَبِّ إِلَّا لَبَّى ما عَنْ يَمِيِنِهِ وَشِمِالِهِ مِنْ حَجَرٍ أَوْ شَجَرٍ أَوْ مَدَرٍ حَتَّى تَنْقَطِعَ الأَرْضُ مِنْ هَاهُنَا وَهاَهُنَا عَنْ يَمِيْنِهِ وَشِمَالِهِ. الترمذي

163. When someone does Talbiyah, every stone and tree and space on his right and his left, until the ends of the earth, do Talbiyah from all around. (At-Tirmithi)

164- مَا رَاحَ مُسْلِمٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ مُجْاهِداً أَوْ حَاجّاً مُهِّلاً أَوْ مُلِبْياً إِلَّا غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ بِذُ نُوبِهِ وَخَرَجَ مِنْهَاْ. الطبراني

164. Whenever a Muslim goes in the service of Allah fighting or doing Hajj, the sun will go down with his sins so he is free of them. (At-Tabaraani)

165- مَنْ طَاْفَ بِالْبَيْتِ وَصَلَّى رِكْعَتْيَنِ كَانَ كَعِتْقِ رَقَبَةٍ. ابن ماجه

165. He who circumambulates the Ka’ba and prays two Rak’at, it is as freeing a slave. (Ibn Maajah)

166- وَأَمَّا طَوافُكَ بِالْبَيْتِ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فِإَّنَك تَطُوفُ وَلَاْ ذَنْبَ لَكَ , يَأْتِي مَلَكٌ حَتَّى يَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْكَ فَيَقُولُ: اعْمَلْ فِيْما يُسْتَقْبَلُ فَقَدْ غُفِرَ لَكَ مَاْ مَضَى. الطبراني

166. As for your Tawaf around the Ka’ba; after your circumambulation you are sinless; an angel comes and puts his two hands between your shoulders saying, ”Work well in the future for the past is atoned.” (At-Tabaraani)

167- وَأَمَّا وُقُوفُكَ عَشِيَّةَ عَرَفَةَ فَإِنَّ اللهَ يَهْبِطُ إِلَى سَماءِ الدُّنيا فَيُباهِيْ بِكُمُ المَلائِكَةَ يَقُولُ عِبَادِيْ جَاءُوني شُعْثاً مِنْ كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ يَرْجُونَ جَنَّتِي فَلَوْ كَانَتْ ذُنُوبُكُمْ كَعَدَدِ الرَّمْلِ أَوْ قَطْرِ الَمْاِء أَوْ زَبَدِ البَحْرِ لَغَفَرْتُهَا أَفِيضُوا مَغْفُوراً لَكُمْ وَلِمَنْ شَفِعْتُمْ. الطبراني وابن حبان

167. As for standing on Mount Arafat; Allah descends to the lower sky and shows you to His angels saying: “My servants have come from every far place, ragged, seeking my Paradise. If your sins are as the number of sands, drops of water, or the foam of the sea, I have pardoned you and those for whom you intercede.” (At-Tabaraani and Ibn Habban)

168- وَأَمَّا رَمْيُكَ الجِمَاْرَ فَلَكَ بِكُلِّ حَصَاْةٍ رَمَيْتَهَا تَكْفِيرُ كَبِيْرَةٍ مِنَ المُوبِقَاْتِ. البزار

168. As for throwing stones; a great sin will be atoned with every stone you throw. (Al-Bazzar)

169- وَأَمَّا حَلْقُكَ رَأْسُكَ فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ شَعْرِكَ شَعْرَةٌ تَقَعُ فِي الأَرْضِ إِلَّا كَاْنَتْ لَكَ نُوْراً يَوْمَ القِيْامَةِ. الطبراني

169. As for shaving heads; each hair which falls to the ground will be a light for you on the Day of Judgment. (At-Tabaraani)

170- وَأَمَّا طَوافُكَ بِالبَيْتِ إِذَا وَدَّعْتَ فَإِنَّكَ تَخْرُجُ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكَ كَيْوَمِ وَلَدَتْكَ أُمُّكَ. الطبراني

170. As for Tawaf around Ka’ba at last; you will be sinless just as the day you were born. (At-Tabaraani)

171- يَا فَاْطِمَةُ قُوْمِيْ إِلَى اُضْحِيَتِكِ فَاْشَهِدْيها فَإِنَّ لَكِ بِأَوَّلِ قَطْرَةٍ تَقْطُرُ مِنْ دَ مِها أَنْ يُغْفَرَ لَكِ مَاْ سَلَفَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكِ قَاْلَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَنَا خَاْصَّةً أَهْلُ البَيْتِ أَوْ لَنَا وَلِلْمُسلِمِيْنَ قَالَ بَلْ لَنَا وَلِلْمُسْلِمِينَ. البزار

171. Oh Fatimah! Go and attend (the slaughtering of) your sacrifice, for you will be pardoned with the first drop of its blood. She asked, “Is this for us only, the family of our household, or is it for us and for all Muslims?” He said, “It is for us and all Muslims.” (Al-Bazzar)

172- أَتَانْي جِبْرِيلُ آنِفاً فَأَقْرَأَنِي مِنْ رَبِّي السَّلاَمَ وَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ غَفَرَ لِأَهْلِ عَرَفَاتِ وَأَهْلِ المشْعَرِ الحَرَامِ وَضَمِنَ عَنْهُمُ التِبَّعاتِ فَقَامَ عُمَرُ بنُ الخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا لَنَا خَاصَّةً قَالَ هَذَا لَكُمْ وَلِمَنْ أَتَى بَعْدَكُمْ إِلَى يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ قَالَ عُمَرُ كَثُرَ خَيْرُ اللهِ وَطَابَ. ابن المبارك

172. The angel Gabriel came to me recently, conveyed salaam from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, to me and said, “Allah has pardoned the people of Arafat, and people of the Mishar Al-Haram (Muzdalifah) and ensured their rights.” Umar Ibn Al-Khattab said, “Oh Messenger of Allah! Is it for us only?” He said, “It is for you and for those who will come after you until the Day of Judgment.” Umar said, “Grace of Allah has spread widely.” (Ibn Al-Mubarak)

173- مَاءُ زَمْزَمَ لِمَا شُرِبَ. ابن ماجه

173. Zamzam is for what it is drunk for. (Ibn Maajah)

174-اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ للْمُحَلِّقِين قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُحَلِّقِينَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ قَالَ اللَّهمَ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُحَلِّقِينَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ قَالَ وَلِلْمُقَصِّرِينَ. البخاري ومسلم

174. Oh Allah! Pardon those who shave their heads. They asked, “Oh Messenger of Allah! And those who trim?” “Oh Allah! Pardon those who shave their heads,” He said. They asked, “Oh Messenger of Allah! And those who trim?” “Oh Allah! Pardon those who shave their heads,” He said. They asked, “Oh Messenger of Allah! And those who trim?” Then he replied, “And the trimmers.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

175- خَيرٌ مَاءٍ عَلَى وَجْهِ الأَرْضِ مَاءُ زَمْزَمَ فِيْهِ طَعَاْمُ الطُّعْمِ وَشِفَاءُ السُّقْمِ. ابن حبان

175. The best water on the surface of the Earth is the water of Zamzam; it has sufficient food, and a cure for diseases. (Ibn Habban)
