Chapter 28: Patience

450- الصَّبْرُ عِنْدَ الصَّدْمَةِ الأُوْلَى. البخاري

450. Patience is shown at the first shock (when you have a disaster). (Al-Bukhari)

451- إِذَا أَحَبَّ اللُه عَبْدَاً ابْتَلاهُ لِيَسْمَعَ تَضَرُّعَهُ. البيهقي

451. If Allah loves a man, He inflicts him with some calamities, to hear him beseech. (Al-Bayhaqi)

452- إِذَا أَصَابَ أَحَدَكُمْ هُمُّ أَوْ لَأْوَاءُ فَلْيَقُلْ اللهُ رَبِّي لا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئاً. الطبراني

452. If someone is afflicted with a calamity or a grief he should say, Allah is my Lord with no partner. (At-Tabaraani)

453- لاَ تُصِيبُ عَبْداً نُكْتَةٌ فَمَا فَوْقَها أَوْ دُونَها إِلاَّ بِذَنْبٍ وَما يَعْفُو اللهُ عَنْهُ أَكْثَرُ , وَقَرأَ: وَمَا أَصَابَكُمْ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُو عَنْ كَثِيرٍ. الترمذي

453. When a man is afflicted with a mishap either small or big, it is because of a sin he did, and Allah forgives a lot; then he read (the holy verse): “And whatever affliction befalls you, it is on account of what your hands have done, and (yet) He pardons most (of your faults).” [Qur’an 42:30] (At-Tirmithi)

454- سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَشَدُّ بلاءً فَقَالَ الأَنِبْيَاءُ ثُمَّ الأَمْثَلُ فَالأْمثَلُ يُبْتَلَى الرَّجُلُ عَلى حَسَبِ دِيْنِهِ. احمد والطبراني

454. The Prophet was asked, “Which group of people has the greatest trial?” He said, “The Prophets and the righteous ones; every one is tested according to his religious knowledge.” (Ahmad and At-Tabraani)

455- مَا يُصِيبُ المُؤْمِنَ مِنْ وَصَبٍ وَلاَ نَصَبٍ وَلاَ سَقَمٍ وَلاَ حُزْنٍ حَتَّى الشَّوْكَةُ يُشَاكُها إِلاَّ كَفَّر اللهُ بِها مِنْ خَطايَاهُ. البخاري

455. Every hardship, pain, worry, sorrow, mischief, oppression, and even every sting of a thorn that happens to a Muslim atones for his sins. (Al-Bukhari)

456- إِنَّ المَعونَةَ تأتِي مِنَ اللهِ علَى قَدَرِ المَؤُونَةِ وإِنَّ الصَّبْرَ يَأتِي مِنَ اللهِ عَلى قَدَرِ البَلاءِ. البزّار

456. Verily, help is given by Allah according to the preparation. Patience is given by Allah according to the severity of the trial. (Al-Bazzar)

457- مَا مِنْ مُسْلِم تُصِيْبُه مُصِيَبةُ فَيَقُولُ مَا أَمَرَهُ اللهُ: إِنَّا للهِ وإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوَن اللَّهُمَّ أجِرْنِي في مُصِيَبِتي واخْلُفْ لِي خَيْرَاً مِنْها إِلاَ أَخْلَفَ الله لهُ خيراً مِنْها. مسلم

457. Whenever a Muslim is afflicted with a calamity and says as Allah recommends, ‘Inna lillah wa inna ilaihi rajiun Allahuma juunrni fi musibati wakhluf li khairan minha - We belong to Allah and to Him is the return; Oh Allah, reward me in my calamity and recompensate me better,’ so Allah will recompensate him with better. (Muslim)

458- يَقُولُ اللهُ تَعَالى: إِذا ابْتَلَيْتُ عَبْدِي بِحَبِيَبَتْيهِ ثُمَّ صَبَرَ عَوَّضْتُهُ مِنْها الجَنَّةَ. البخاري

458. Allah says (in Hadith Qudsi): If I afflict my servant’s beloved ones (his eyes) and he stays patient, I will compensate him with Paradise. (Al-Bukhari)

459- إنَّ اللهَ ليُكَفِّرُ عَنِ المُؤْمِنِ خَطَاياهُ كُلَّها بِحُمَّى لَيْلَةٍ. ابن أبي الدنيا

459. Verily, Allah forgives all the sins of the believer by an overnight fever. (Ibn Abi Ad-Dunya)

460- إِذَاْ أَحَبَّ اللهُ قَوْمَاً ابْتَلاهُم فَمَنْ رَضِيَ فَلَهُ الرِّضَا وَمَنْ سَخَطَ فَلَهُ السَّخَطُ. الترمذي

460. If Allah loves some people, he tests them with calamities. He who accepts, earns Allah’s pleasure, and he who objects, earns Allah’s rage. (At-Tirmithi)

461- يَقُولُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَنْ أَذْهَبْتُ حَبِيَبَتْيهِ فَصَبَرَ واحْتَسَبَ لَمْ أَرْضَ لَهُ ثَوَاباً دُونَ الجَنَّةِ. الترمذي

461. Allah says (in Hadith Qudsi): If I inflict my servant’s eyes and he stays patient, I Allah will only be pleased by giving him Jannah. (At-Tirmithi)

462- لاْ يَنْبَغي لمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يُذِلَّ نَفْسَهُ قِيلَ وَكَيْفَ يَذِلُّ نَفْسَهُ قَالَ يَتَعَرَّضُ مِنَ البَلاءِ لمِا لاَ يُطِيُق. أحمد

462. “Muslim should not ruin himself.” They said, “How does he ruin himself?” He said, “When he exposes himself to obligations which he cannot handle.” (Ahmad)

463- التَّدْبِيرُ نِصفُ المَعِيشَةِ، وَ التَّوَدُّدُ نِصْفُ الْعَقْلِ، وَالْهَمُّ نِصْفُ الْهَرمِ، وَقِلَّةُ الْعِيالِ أَحَدُ الْيسَارَيْنِ . الديلمي والبيهقي

463. Management achieves half of the livelihood; bearing with people is half of the intelligence; stress consumes half of your age; and fewer family is one of two eases. (Al-Dailami and Al-Bayhaqi)

464- ثَلاثٌ مِنْ كُنُوزِ البِرِّ كِتْمَانُ الشَّكْوَى وكِتْمانُ المُصِيبَةِ وكِتْمانُ الصَّدَقَةَ. الطبراني

464. Three things are the treasures of righteousness: suppressing the complaint, hiding the misfortune, and hiding the charity. (At-Tabaraani)

465- الصَّبرُ نِصْفُ الإيمانِ واليَقِينُ الإيمانُ كُلُّهُ. الطبراني

465. Patience is the half of Iman and Certainty is the whole of Iman. (At-Tabaraani)
