Chapter 35: Remembering Death

554- المَوْتُ كَفَّارَةٌ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ. أبو نعيم

554. Death is an expiation (of sin) for every Muslim. (Abu Na’eem)

555- الدُّنْيا سِجْنُ المُؤْمِنِ وَسِنْتَهُ فَإِذَا فَارَقَ الدُّنيْا فَارَقَ السِّجْنَ وَالسَّنَةَ. الحاكم

555. This world is the prison and doom for the believer; when he separates from the world, he separates from the prison and doom. (Al-Haakim)

556- إِنَّ المَيْتَ يَعْرِفُ مَنْ يُغَسِّلُهُ وَيَحْمِلُهُ وَمَنْ يُكَفِّنهُ وَيُدْلِيه في حُفْرَتِهِ. أحمد

556. The dead one knows who washes him, who bears him, who shrouds him, and who puts him in his hole. (Ahmad)

557- إِذَا وَلِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ فَلْيُحْسِنْ كَفَنَهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَتَزاوَرُونَ فِي قٌبٌورِهِمْ. أحمد ومسلم

557. If one undertakes to bury his brother, improve the shroud, because the dead visit each other in their graves. (Ahmad and Muslim)

558- أَرْواَحُ الشُّهَداءِ فِي حَواَصِلِ طَيْرٍ خُضْرٍ تَسْرَحُ في الجَنَّةِ حَيْثُ شَاءَتْ تَأْوِي إِلى قَنَادِيلَ تَحْتَ العَرْشِ. مسلم

558. Martyrs’ souls are inside green birds that go wherever they wish to go in the Paradise, and then go back to shelter under the throne. (Muslim)

559- إِنَّما نَسْمَةُ المُؤْمِنِ طَائِرٌ يَتَعَلَّقُ فِي شَجَرِ الجَنَّةِ حَتَّى يُرْجِعَهُ اللهُ إِلَى جَسَدِهِ يَوْمَ يَبْعَثُهُ. مالك والنسائي

559. The Muslim’s soul is a bird hanging on a tree in Jannah until Allah brings him back to his body on the Day of Resurrection. (Maalik and Al-Nasaai)

560- أَوْلادُ المُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الجَنَّةِ يَكْفَلُهُم إِبْراهِيمُ وَسَارَةُ حَتَّى يَرُدَّهُم إِلَى آبائِهِم يَوْمَ القِيامَةِ. أحمد والحاكم

560. The children of the believers (who die) are in Paradise; Abraham and Sarah care for them until they return to their parents on the Day of Resurrection. (Ahmad and Al-Haakim)

561- إِذَا مَاتِ العالِمُ صَوَّرَ اللهُ لَهُ عَمَلَهُ في قَبْرِهِ فَيُؤْنِسُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ وَيَدْرَأُ عَنْهُ هَوَامَ الأَرْضِ. الديلمي

561. When a scholar dies, Allah will show him his deeds in the grave so it pleases him till the Day of Judgment, and He keeps worms away from him. (Al-Daylami)

562- إِنَّما القَبْرُ رَوْضَةٌ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الجَنَّةِ أَوْ حُفْرَةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ. الترمذي

562. Indeed the grave is either a garden of Jannah, or a pit from hell. (At-Tirmithi)
