603. Indeed there is wisdom in some poetry. (Al-Bukhari)
604- الشِّعْرُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الكَلاَمِ فَحَسَنُهُ كَحَسَنِ الكَلاَمِ وَقُبْحُهُ كَقُبْحِ الكَلاَمِ. الطبراني604. Poetry is like speech; its beauty is just like the beauty of the speech, and its ugliness is just like the ugliness of the speech. (At-Tabaraani)
605- أَصْدَقُ كَلِمَةٍ قَالهَا الشَّاعِرُ لَبِيدُ أَلاَ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلاَ اللهَ باطِلُ وكُلُّ نَعَيمٍ لا مَحالَةَ زائِلُ. الشيخان605. The most truthful words of the poet Labid: everything ever other than Allah is false, and every pleasure will vanish. (Al-Bukhari)
606- كَانَ يَتَمَثَّلُ وَيَقُولُ: وَيَأْتيِكَ بِالأَخْبَارِ مَنْ لَمْ تُزُوِد. الترمذي606. The Prophet used to chant saying, “May someone give you news which you did not provide.” (At-Tirmithi)
607- إِنَّ المُؤمِنَ يُجاهِدُ بِسَيْفِهِ وَلِسَانِهِ وَالَّذيْ نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَكَأَنَّمَا تَرْمُونَهُمْ نُضْحَ النَّبْلِ. ابن حبان607. The Muslim does Jihad through his sword and his tongue. I swear by Allah that you are casting words like arrows. (Ibn Habban)
608- اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ العَيْشَ عَيْشَ الآخِرَةِ، فَأَكِرِمِ الأَنْصَارَ وَالمُهاجِرَةِ. متفق عليه608. Oh Allah, there is no life but in the hereafter so please be generous to Al-Ansar and Al-Muhajireen. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
609- إنَّ اللهَ يُؤَيِّدُ حَسَّانَ بِرُوحِ القُدْسِ ما نَافَحَ أَوْ فَاخَر عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ . البخاري609. Allah supports Hassan (Rasulullah’s poet) with the holy spirit whenever he advocates or expresses pride for the Messenger of Allah. (Al-Bukhari)
610- هَلْ أَنْتِ إِلاَّ إصْبَعٌ دَمِيَتِ وَفيِ سَبيلِ اللهِ مَا لَقِيَتِ. الشيخان610. You are but a finger bloodend, and this in the cause of Allah of a sudden! (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
612- لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئ ْجَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحَاً حَتَّى يُريهِ خَيرٌ لهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْراً. الشيخان612. To be filled inside with puss is better than to be filled with (bad) poetry. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
613- إنَّ أَعْظَمَ الفِرْيَةِ فِرْيَةُ اثنين: شَاعِرٍ يَهْجُو قَبيلةً بِأَسْرِهَا، وَرَجُلٍ انْتَفَى مِنْ أَبيهِ. ابن حبان613. The most sinful actions are two: a poet who insults the whole community and a man who renounces his father. (Ibn Habban)
614- امْرُؤُ القَيْسِ صَاحِبُ لِوَاءِ الشِّعِرْ إِلى النَّارِ. أحمد614. Umro’ Al-Qais (a bad poet) will bear the banner to lead the poets into the Fire. (Ahmad)
