Chapter 41: The Dream

640- الرُّؤْيا مِنَ اللهِ تَعَالَى وَالحُلْمُ مِنَ الشَّيْطانِ. البخاري

640. The good dream is from Allah and the bad dream is from satan. (Al-Bukhari)

641- لَمْ يَبْقَ مِنَ النُّبَّوةِ إِلَّا المُبَشِّراتُ قَالُوا وَمَا المُبَشِّراتُ قَالَ الرُّؤْيا الصَّالِحَةُ. البخاري

641. Nothing remains of the prophethood except bringers of good news. They said, “And what are they?” He said, “The righteous dream.” (Al-Bukhari)

642- إِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمْ رُؤْيا يُحِبُّها فَإِنَّما هِيَ مِنَ اللهِ فَلْيَحْمُدِ اللهَ عَلَيْهَا وَلْيُحَدِّثْ بِها- البخاري

642. Whenever one of you sees a vision that he likes, then it is from Allah; let him praise Allah, and tell others about it. (Al-Bukhari)

643- فِي آخِرِ الزَّمانِ لَا تَكادُ رُؤْيا المُؤْمِنِ تَكْذِبُ وَأَصْدَقُهُمْ رُؤْيا أَصْدَقُهُمْ حَدِيثاً. البخاري

643. At the end of time, the vision of the believer will hardly ever be false; and the most truthful of them in their vision will be the most truthful of them in speech. (Al-Bukhari)

644- مَنْ رَآنِي فِي النَّوْمِ فَقَدْ رَآنِي إِنَّهُ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِلْشَّيْطَانِ أَنْ يَتَمَثَّلَ فِي صُورَتِي. مسلم

644. Whosoever sees me in sleep has seen me in reality, for indeed satan cannot take on my image. (Muslim)

645- إِنَّ الرُؤْيا تَقَعُ عَلَى مَا تُعَبَّرُ وَمَثَلُ ذَلِكَ مَثَلُ رَجُلٍ رَفَعَ رِجْلَهُ فَهُوَ يَنْتَظِرُ مَتى يَضَعُها. الحاكم

645. True dream materializes; it is just like a man who has raised his leg and is waiting to set it back. (Al-Haakim)

646- مِنْ أَفْرَى الفِرَى أَنْ يُرِيَ عَيْنَيْهِ مَا لَمْ يَرَى. البخاري

646. The most detested lie is to narrate what one’s eyes have not seen (in a dream). (Al-Bukhari)

647- مَنْ تَحَلَّمَ بِحُلمٍ لَمْ يَرَهُ كُلِّفَ أَنْ يَعْقِدَ بَيْنَ شَعْرَتَيْنِ وَلَنْ يَفْعَلَ. البخاري

647. He who narrates a dream that he has not seen, will be ordered to tie two single hairs and he will not be able to. (Al-Bukhari)

648- الرُّؤْيا مِنَ اللهِ وَالحُلُمُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِذَّا رَأَى أَحَدُكُم شَيْئَاً يَكْرَهُهُ فَلْيَنْفُثْ يَسَارَهُ ثَلَاث مَرَّاتٍ وَلِيَتَعُوذَ بِاللهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا فَإِنَّها لَنْ تَضُرَّهُ. البخاري

648. The good dream is from Allah and the bad dream is from satan; whenever one of you sees something that he dislikes, let him spit three times on his left and seek refuge with Allah from its evil, for indeed it will not hurt him. (Al-Bukhari)

649- إِذَا لَعِبَ الشَّيْطَانُ بِأَحَدِكُم فِي مَنامِه فَلا يُحَدِّثَنَ النَّاسَ. مسلم

649. Whenever satan plays (sexually) with any one of you in your sleep let him not speak of it to people. (Muslim)

650- الرُّؤْيا الحَسَنَةُ مِنَ الرَّجُلِ الصَّالِحِ جُزْءٌ مِنْ سِتَّةٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ جُزْءَاً مِنَ النُّبُوَّةِ. البخاري

650. The good vision is from the righteous man; it is a part of the forty-six parts of prophethood. (Al-Bukhari)

651- مَنْ رَأَى أَنَّهً شَرِبَ لَبَنَاً فَهُوَ الفِطْرَةُ. الطبراني

651. He is natural, who dreams that he is drinking milk. (At-Tabaraani)

652- رَأَيْتُ امْرَأَةً سَوْداءَ ثَائِرةَ الرَّأْسِ خَرَجَتْ مِنَ المَدِيْنَةِ حَتَّى قَامَتْ بِمَهْيَِصَةٍ فَأَوَّلَتْ أَنَّ وَبَاءَ المَدِينَةِ نُقِلَ إِلَيْها. البخاري

652. I saw a dark bareheaded disheveled woman emerge from Medina to Mahiyasah (a remote area); so I interpreted that an epidemic of Medina has moved there. (Al-Bukhari)

653- بَيْنَما أَنَا نَائِمٌ إَذْ أُتِيْتُ خَزَاِئَنَ الأَرْضِ فَوُضِعَ في يَديَّ سِوَارانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَكَبُرَا عَلَيَّ وَأَهمَّانِي فَأُوحِيَ إليَّ أَنْ أَنُفَخُهما فَنَفَخْتُهُما فَطَارا فَأَوْلتُهُما الكذَّابَيْنِ اللَّذَيِنْ أَنا بَيْنَهُما صَاحِبَ صَنْعَاءَ وَصَاحِبَ اليَمَامَةِ. البخاري

653. While I was sleeping, I was given the treasures of the Earth and two golden bracelets were put in my hands. I was worried and concerned because of them, and then it was revealed to me to blow on them, so I blew on them, and they flew away. I interpreted the dream to be the two liars, whom I am between, the one from San’a’ (Al-Aswad Al-‘Ans) and the one of Yamamah (Musailamah Al-Kazzab). (Al-Bukhari)

654- بَيْنَما أَنَا نَائِمٌ رَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ يُعْرِضُونَ عَليَّ وَعَلَيْهِمْ قَمِيصٌ مِنْها مَا يَبْلُغُ الثَّدْيَ وَمِنْها مَا يَبْلُغُ دُوْنَ ذلِكَ ومَرَّ عَليَّ عُمَرُ بنُ الخَطَّابِ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ يَجُرُّهُ قالُوا ما أوَّلْتَهُ يا رَسُولَ اللهِ قالَ الدِّينُ. البخاري

654. While I was sleeping, I saw men wearing shirts up to their chests or lower than this; then Umar Bin Al-Khattab passed by wearing a shirt and dragging it behind him. They said, “And how did you interpret it, Oh Messenger of Allah ?” He said, “It is the religion.” (Al-Bukhari)

655- أُتِيتُ بِالْبُرَاقِ، وَهُوَ دَابَّةٌ أَبْيَضُ طَوِيلٌ فَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ وَدُونَ الْبَغْلِ، يَضَعُ حَافِرَهُ عِنْدَ مُنْتَهَىَ طَرْفِهِ. ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ. متفق عليه

655. Al-buraq was brought to me; it was between the size of the mule and a donkey; he stepped forward as far as he could see (then he mentioned the long hadith of Isra). (Agreed upon)

656- رَأَيْتُ فِي المَنَامِ أَنِّي أُهَاجِرُ مِنْ مَكَّةِ إِلى أَرْضٍ بها نَخْلٌ فَذَهَبَ وَهَلِي إلى أَنَّها اليَمَامَةُ أو هَجَرْ فَإِذَا هيَ المَدِينَةُ. البخاري

656. I saw in my dream that I emigrated from Mecca to a land full of palm trees; I thought it was Al-Yamamah or Hajar but it turned out to be Al-Medina. (Al-Bukhari)

657- وَرَأَيْتُ في رُؤْيَايَ هذه أَنِّي هَزَزْتُ سَيْفاً فانْقَطَعَ صَدْرُهُ فإِذَا هُوَ ما أُصِيبَ بِهِ المُؤمِنِينَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ثُمَّ هَزَزْتُهُ ثَانِيةً فَعادَ أَحْسَنَ ما كَانَ فإِذا هُوَ مَا جَاء اللهُ بِهِ مِنَ الفَتْحِ واجْتِماعِ المُؤْمِنِيَن. البخاري

657. I saw in the same dream that I shook a sword; it broke into two parts, and this was what happened to Muslims in Uhod; Then I shook it again, it came back to its main shape, and this was the conquest (of Mecca) and the unifying of Muslims; and this came from Allah the Almighty. (Al-Bukhari)

658- رَأَيْتُ كَأَنّي فِي دِرْعٍ حَصِيَنةٍ وَرَأَيْتُ بَقَراً تُنْحَرُ فَأَوَّلْتُ أَنَّ الدِرْعَ الحَصِينَةَ المَدِينةُ وَأَنَّ البَقَرَ نَفَرٌ واللهُ خَيْرٌ. البخاري

658. I saw that I was in invincible armor and I saw cows slaughtered; so I interpreted the invincible armor to be Medina and the cows for a group of people (martyrs), and Allah is better. (Al-Bukhari)

659- قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُوَل اللهِ رَأَيْتُ كَأَّنَّ ثَلاَثَةَ أَقْمَارٍ سَقَطْنَ في حِجْري فَقَالَ لَها: إِنْ صَدَقَتْ رَؤْيَاكَ دُفِنَ في بَيْتِكِ (أَرَاهُ) قال أَفْضَلُ أَهْلِ الجَنَّةِ فَقُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ وَهُوَ أَفْضَلُ أَقْمَارِهَا ثُمَ قُبِضَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ قُبِضَ عُمَرُ فَدُفِنُوا في بَيْتِها. الطبراني

659. ‘Aishah said, “Oh Messenger of Allah , I saw that three moons fell down into my lap.” He said to her, “If it is true, the best of the Paradise’s (person or) people will be buried in your house.” After that, the Prophet died and he is the best of moons, then Abu Bakr died, then Umar died, and they were all buried in her house. (At-Tabaraani)

660- بَيْنَمَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ أُتِيتُ بِقَدَحٍ لَبَنٍ فَشَرِبْتُ منهُ حتَّى أَنِّي لَأَرَى الريَّ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ أَظافِرِي ثُم أُعْطِيتُ فَضْلِي عمرَ قَالُوا فما أَوَّلْتَه يا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ: العِلْمُ. البخاري

660. While I was sleeping, I was given a goblet of milk so I drank from it until I was quenched, and then I felt the milk coming out of my fingernails, then I gave the rest of the goblet to Umar. They said, “How did you interpret it, Oh Messenger of Allah ?” He said, “It is knowledge.” (Al-Bukhari)
