الفَصْلُ الثَّامِنُ و الأَرْبَعُون: أَحَادِيثُ النِّكَاحْ

Chapter 48: Marriage

753- يَا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَابِ مَنْ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ البَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلبَصَرِ وأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ. البخاري

753. Oh young men, he who has the ability to marry has to marry because it (marriage) keeps your gaze low and your modesty guarded; and he who does not have the ability to marry has to fast because fasting is a protection. (Al-Bukhari)

754- تُنْكَحُ المَرْأَةَ لِأَرْبَعٍ لِمَالِهَا ولِحَسَبِهَا ولِجَمَالِهَا ولِدِيْنِهَا فَاظْفَرْ بِذَاتِ الدِّيْنِ تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكَ. البخاري

754. The woman is married for four (advantages): her money, her noble descent, her beauty, and her religion, so marry the one of the religion, God bless you! (Al-Bukhari)

755- عَلَيْكُمْ بِشَوَابِّ النِّسَاءِ فَإِنَّهُنَّ أَطْيَبُ أَفْوَاهَاً وأَنْتَقُ بُطُونَاً وأَسْخَنُ إِقْبَالاً. الشيرازي

755. (Marry) the young women because they are nicer in their tongues, more fertile, and hotter in their coming. (Ash-Shirazi)

756- فَهَلَّا بِكْرَاً تُدَاعِبُهَا وتُدَاعِبُكَ وتُضَاحِكُهَا (وبِرِوَايَةٍ) فَهَلَّا بِكْرَاً تَعُضُّهَا وتَعُضُّكَ. البخاري والطبراني

756. (Marry) a virgin: you play and joke with her and she plays and jokes with you. (In another narration,) (Marry) a virgin: you nip her and she nips you. (Al-Bukhari and At-Tabaraani)

757- إِنَّ مِنْ يُمْنِ المَرْأَةِ تَيَسُّرُ خِطْبَتِهَا وتَيَسُّرُ صُدَاقِهَا وتَيَسُّرُ رَحِمِهَا.أحمد

757. Truly, the auspicious woman is the one whose engagement is easy, whose dower is easy, and her belly (pregnancy) is easy. (Ahmad)

758- إِذَا خَطَبَ إِلَيْكُمْ مَنْ تَرْضَوْنَ خُلُقَهُ ودِيْنَهُ فَزَوِّجُوه إِلَّا تَفْعَلُوا تَكُنْ فِتْنَةٌ فِي الأَرْضِ وفَسَادٌ كَبِيرٌ. الترمذي

758. If he whose manners and religion satisfy you comes to you asking for marriage, get him/her to marry; if you do not do, there will be a seduction and a big corruption on the earth. (At-Tirmithi)

759- حُبِّبَ إِلَيَّ النِّسَاءُ والطِّيْبُ وجُعِلَتْ قُرَّةَ عَيْنِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ. النسائي

759. Women and odors are lovable to me, and the delight of my eye is in the Salat. (Al-Nasaai)

760- تَزَوَّجَوا النِّسَاءَ فَإِنَّهُنَّ يَأْتِيْنَ بِالمَالِ. البزار

760. Marry women, you will get money. (Al-Bazaar)

761- إِذَا تَزَوَّجَ البِكْرَ عَلَى الثَّيِّبِ أَقَامَ عِنْدَهَا سَبْعَاً، وإِذَا تَزَوَّجَ الثَّيِّبَ عَلَى البِكْرِ أَقَامَ عِنْدَهَا ثَلَاثَاً. البيهقي

761. If a (man) marries a virgin when he has a wife, he may stay with her seven nights in a row; while if he marries a widow when he has a wife, he may stay with her three nights in a row. (Al-Bayhaqi)

762- أَرْبَعٌ حَقٌّ عَلَى اللهِ عَونهُمْ الغَازِي والمُتَزَوِّجُ والمُكَاتِبُ والحَاجُّ. أحمد

762. Four (people) are right to be helped by Allah: the Ghazi (the fighter for God’s sake), the married, the Mukaatib (the servant who works and pays money for his master to free himself), and the pilgrim. (Ahmad)

763- أَفْضَلُ الشَّفَاعَةِ أَنْ يُشْفَعَ فِي نِكَاحٍ. ابن ماجه

763. The best intercession is to intercede (to help) in a marriage. (Ibn Majah)

764- مَنْ قَدِرَ أَنْ يَنْكِحَ فَلَمْ يَنْكِحْ فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا. الطبراني

764. He who has the ability to marry and does not marry is not one of us. (At-Tabaraani)

765- يَا عِيَاضُ لا تَتَزَوَّجْنَ عَجُوزَاً ولَا عَاقِرَاً فَإِنِّي مُكَاثِرٌ بِكُمُ الأُمَمَ. الطبراني

765. Oh ‘Iyad, do not marry an old woman nor a sterile woman because I want to show other nations (in the doomsday) how great my nation is. (Al-Tabrani)

766- مِسْكِيْنٌ مِسْكِيْنٌ رَجُلٌ لَيْسَ لَهُ اِمْرَأَةٌ وإِنْ كَانَ لَهُ مَالٌ، ومِسْكِيْنَةٌ مِسْكِيْنَةٌ اِمْرَأَةٌ لَيْسَ لَهَا زَوْجٌ. الطبراني

766. Poor, poor, man with no wife even if he has money; and poor, poor, woman with no husband. (Al-Tabrani)

767- إِذَا غَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَهْلَهُ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَعُوْدَ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأَ وُضُوْءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ. ابن خزيمة

767. If someone sleeps with his wife and wants to come back, he is recommended to do Wudu’ as he does it for the Salah. (Ibn Khuzaymah)

768- كَانَ النَّبِيُّ يَقُوْلُ لِلْمُتَزَوِّجِ: بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا في خَيْرٍ. ابو داوود و الترمذي

768. The Prophet used to say to the newly married man: Barakallahu laka wa baaraka ‘alaiyka wa jama’a baiynakumaa fikhaiyr, God bless you, God congratulate you, and join you in goodness. (Abu Daud and At-Tirmithi and An-Nasai)

769- ثَلَاثٌ مِنَ الفَوَاقِرِ: إِمَامٌ إِنْ أَحْسَنْتَ لَمْ يَشْكُرْ وإِنْ أَسَأْتَ لَمْ يَغْفِرْ، وجَارٌ إِنْ رَأَى خَيْرَاً دَفَنَهُ وإِنْ رَأَى شَرَّاً أَشَاعَهُ، وامْرَأَةٌ إِنْ حَضَرْتَ آذَتْكَ وإِنْ غِبْتَ عَنْهَا خَانَتْكَ. الطبراني

769. Three things destroy people miserably: a leader who never praises when you do well nor forgives when you do badly, a neighbor who hides a good deed if he sees it and spreads the bad one, and a woman who hurts you when you are present and betrays you when you are absent. (Al-Tabrani)

770- إِذَا حُرِمَ أَحَدُكُمْ الزَّوْجَةَ والوَلَدَ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالجِهَادِ. الطبراني

770. If someone is deprived of wife and children, he may go to Jihad (the holy war). (Al-Tabrani)

771- سَعْيُكَ إِلَى المَسْجِدِ وانْصِرَافُكَ إِلى أَهْلِكَ فِي الأَجْرِ سَوَاءٌ. ابن المسيب و يحى بن يحى

771. Working hard for your family is the same in reward as going to masjid. (Ibnu Al-Musaiib and Yahya ibn Yahya)

772- إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ إِذَا نَظَرَ إِلَى اِمْرَأَتِهِ ونَظَرَتْ إِلَيْهِ نَظَرَ اللهُ إِلَيْهِمَا نَظَرَ رَحْمَةٍ فَإِذَا أَخَذَ بِكَفِّهَا تَسَاقَطَتْ ذُنُوبُهُمَا مِنْ خِلَالِ أَصَابِعِهِمَا. الرافعي

772. When man looks at his wife and she looks at him, Allah looks mercifully at them; and when they hold hands, they are free of sins. (Al-Rafi’i)

773- مَكْتُوبٌ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ مَنْ بَلَغَتْ اِبْنَتُهُ اِثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً ولَمْ يُزَوِّجْهَا فَإِنَّمَا إِثْمُ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ. الديلمي

773. It is written in the Torah (the Old Testament), “He who has a twelve-year-old girl and does not get her to marry is sinful.” (Ad-Dailami)
