Chapter 49: Khilafah

774- الخِلَافَةُ ثَلَاثُونَ عَامَاً ثُمَّ يَكُونُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ المُلْكُ. أحمد

774. The Khilafah period will last for thirty years then there will be Monarchy. (Ahmad)

775- إِذَا بُوْيِعَ لِخَلِيْفَتَيْنِ فَاقْتُلُوا الآخَرَ مِنْهُمْ. مسلم

775. If people pay homage to two Khalifs (rulers), kill the latter one. (Muslim)

776- اِسْمَعُوا وأَطِيْعُوا ولَوْ اِسْتُعْمِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَبَشِيٌّ كَأَنَّ رَأْسَهُ زَبِيْبَةٌ. متفق عليه

776. Listen and obey even if your ruler is an Abyssinian whose head is like a raisin. (Agreed on)

777- إِنَّ أَحَبَّ النَّاسِ إِلى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ وأَقْرَبَهُمْ مِنْهُ مَجْلِسَاً إِمَامٌ عَادِلٌ وإِنَّ أَبْغَضَ النَّاسِ إِلى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ وأَشَدَّهُمْ عَذَابَاً إِمَامٌ جَائِرٌ. أحمد

777. The most lovable and favorable person to Allah in the Day of Judgment is the fair Imam (ruler); and the most detested and severely punished by Allah in the Day of Judgment is the unfair Imam (ruler). (Ahmad)

778- إِذَا أَرَادَ اللهُ بِالأَمِيْرِ خَيْرَاً جَعَلَ لَهُ وَزِيْرَ صِدْقٍ إِنْ نَسِيَ ذَكَّرَهُ وإِنْ ذَكَرَ أَعَاَنَهُ وإِذَا أَرَادَ بِهِ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ جَعَلَ لَهُ وَزِيْرَ سُوْءٍ إِنْ نَسِيَ لَمْ يُذَكِّرْهُ وإِنْ ذَكَرَ لَمْ يُعِنْهُ. أبو داود

778. If Allah wants good for an Amir (leader), he renders to him a truthful minister who reminds him when he forgets and helps him when he needs, but if Allah wants another thing for (an Amir), he renders to him a bad minister who does not remind him when he forgets nor does he help him when he needs. (Abu Daud)

779- مَا بَعَثَ اللهُ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ ولا اِسْتَخْلَفَ مِنْ خَلِيْفَةٍ إِلَّا كَانَتْ لَهُ بِطَانَتَانِ بِطَانَةٌ تَأْمُرُهُ بِالمَعْرُوْفِ وتَحُضُّهُ عَلَيْهِ وبِطَانَةٌ تَأْمُرُهُ بِالشَّرِّ وتَحُضُّهُ عَلَيْهِ فَالمَعْصُوْمُ مَنْ عَصَمَهُ اللهُ. البخاري

779. Allah gives any Prophet he sends or any Khalif he sets to rule two corteges: a good cortege who urges him to do goodness and a bad cortege who urges him to do evil; and the infallible one is guarded by Allah. (Al-Bukhari)

780- يَا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ لا تَسْأَلِ الإِمَارَةَ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ أُعْطِيْتَهَا عَنْ مَسْأَلَةٍ وُكِلْتَ إِلَيْهَا وإِنْ أُعْطِيْتَهَا مِنْ غَيْرِ مَسْأَلَةٍ اُعِنْتَ عَلَيْهَا. البخاري

780. Oh Abd Al-Rahman, do not ask for leadership because if you ask for it, it will be heavy on you; and if it is given to you without asking, you will be helped. (Al-Bukhari)

781- إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَرَاءٌ وتَرَونَ أَثَرَةً قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَمَا يَصْنَعُ مَنْ أَدْرَكَ ذَلِكَ مِنَّا قَالَ أَدُّوا الَّذِي عَلَيْكُمْ وسَلُوا اللهَ الَّذِي لَكُمْ. متفق عليه

781. The Prophet said, “One day, there will be selfish rulers (who will not fear God).” They said, “So, what should he do, who will be alive then?” He said, “He should do his duties and ask Allah for his rights.” (Agreed on)

782- مَنْ خَلَعَ يَدَاً مِنْ طَاعَةٍ لَقِيَ اللهَ يَومَ القِيَامَةِ ولا حُجَّةَ لَهُ ومَنْ مَاتَ ولَيْسَ فِي عُنُقِهِ بَيْعَةٌ مَاتَ مِيْتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً. مسلم

782. He who disobeys a Muslim leader when he can do it will face Allah in the doomsday with no excuse; and he who dies without paying homage (to a Muslim leader) will die without faith. (Muslim)

783- مَنْ جُعِلَ قَاضِيَاً بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَقَدْ ذُبِحَ بِغَيْرِ سِكِّيْنٍ. أبو داود

783. He who is set to judge between people is like the one who is slaughtered without a knife. (Abu Daud)

784- مَنْ وَلِيَ مِنْ أَمْرِ أُمَّتِي شَيْئَاً فَشَقَّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَاشْقُقْ عَلَيْهِ ومَنْ وَلِيَ مِنْ أَمْرِ أُمَّتِي شَيْئَاً فَرَفَقَ بِهِم فَارْفَقْ بِهِ. مسلم

784. (Oh God), he who is in charge of my people and makes things hard for them, be hard on him; and he who treats them kindly be kind to him. (Muslim)

785- ثَلَاثَةٌ لا يُكَلِّمُهُمْ اللهُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ ولا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ ولا يُزَكِّيْهِمْ ولَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيْمٌ: شَيْخٌ زَانٍ، ومَلِكٌ كَذَّابٌ، وعَائِلٌ مُسْتَكْبِرٌ. أحمد

785. Allah will neither talk to, nor look at, nor purify three people in the doomsday and they will have a severe punishment: an adulterous old man, a liar king, and an arrogant poor person. (Ahmad)

786- مَنْ بَدَا جَفَا ومَنْ اِتَّبَعَ الصَّيْدَ غَفِلَ ومَنْ أَتَى أَبْوَابَ السَّلاطِين اِفْتُتِنَ ومَا ازْدَادَ عَبْدٌ مِنَ السَّلاطِين قُرْبَاً إِلَّا ازْدَادَ مِنَ اللهِ بُعْدَاً. أحمد

786. He who lives in the countryside will be rough in his nature; he who goes hunting is aimless in his life; he who looks forward to the sultans’ (rulers’) favor will be corrupted; and the closer the man is to the rulers, the farther he is from Allah. (Ahmad)

787- مَنْ أَطَاعَنِي فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللهَ ومَنْ عَصَانِي فَقَدْ عَصَى اللهَ ومَنْ أَطَاعَ أَمِيْرِي فَقَدْ أَطَاعَنِي ومَنْ عَصَى أَمِيْرِي فَقَدْ عَصَانِي. البخاري

787. Whoever obeys me is obeying God, and whoever disobeys me is disobeying God; whoever obeys my Amir (leader) is obeying me, and whoever disobeys my Amir (leader) is disobeying me. (Al-Bukhari)

788- مَا مِنْ أَمِيْرِ عَشِيْرَةٍ إِلَّا ويَأتِي يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ مَغْلُوَلَةٌ يَدَاهُ إِلَى عُنُقِهِ أَطْلَقَهُ الحَقُّ أَو أَوْبَقَهُ. الدارمي

788. Every ruler will come in the doomsday with his two hands tied to his neck then Allah frees him or punishes him. (Al-Darimi)

789- إِنَّ المُقْسِطِيْنَ عِنْدَ اللهِ عَلَى مَنَابِرَ مِنْ نُوْرٍ عَلَى يَمِيْنِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَكِلْتَا يَدَيْهِ يَمِيْنُ الَّذِيْنَ يَعْدِلُونَ فِي حُكْمِهِمْ وأَهْلِيْهِمْ ومَا قَالُوا. مسلم

789. Fair rulers will be on pulpits of light on God’s right hand (in the doomsday) - and both of Allah’s hands are right – they are just in their ruling, just with their family, and just in what they say. (Muslim)

790- مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ اِسْتَرْعَاهُ اللهُ رَعِيَّةً فَلَمْ يُحِطْهَا بِنُصْحِهِ لَمْ يَجِدْ رَائِحَةَ الجَنَّةِ. البخاري

790. A man who does not advise people who are in his charge, will not find the scent of Paradise. (Al-Bukhari)
