Chapter 57: The Earthly Life

890- مَا مَثَلُ الدُّنْيَا فِي الآخِرَةِ إِلَّا مَثَلُ مَا يَجْعَلُ أَحَدَكُمْ أُصْبُعَهُ فِي اليَمِّ فَلْيَنْظُرْ بِمَ يَرْجِعُ. مسلم

890. The comparison of this life to the afterlife is like when you put your finger in the sea and bring it out; what your finger will have on it (is this life and what remains is the afterlife). (Muslim)

891- الدُّنْيَا سِجْنُ المُؤْمِنِ وَجَنَّةُ الكَافِرِ. ابن ماجه

891. This world is the prison of the believer and the Paradise of the unbeliever. (Ibn Maajah)

892- الدُّنْيَا دَاْرُ مَنْ لَا دَارَ لَهُ وَلَهَا يَجْمَعُ مَنْ لَا عَقْلَ لَهُ. أحمد

892. The world is the home of the one who has no home; and those who have no intellect work for it. (Ahmad)

893- لَوْ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا تَعْدِلُ عِنْدَ اللهِ جَنَاحَ بَعُوضَةٍ مَا سَقَى كَافِرَاً مِنْهَا شَرْبَةَ مَاءٍ. الترمذي

893. If this life equaled a wing of a fly in God’s estimation, Allah would never let a disbeliever have a drink of water from it. (At-Tirmithi)

894- إِنَّ مِنْ أَشَرِّ النَّاسِ مَنْزِلَةً عِنْدَ اللهِ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ عَبْدٌ أَذْهَبَ آخِرَتَهُ بِدُنْيَا غَيْرِهِ. الطبراني

894. One of the worst people in Allah’s estimation in the doomsday is a man who wastes his afterlife for another man’s worldly life. (At-Tabaraani)

895- لا تَسُبُّوا الدُّنْيَا فَلَنِعْمَ مَطِيَّةُ المُؤْمِنِ عَلَيْهَا يَبْلُغُ الخَيْرَ وَعَلَيْهَا يَنْجُوْ مِنَ الشَّرِّ. الديلمي

895. Do not curse life for it is the best mount of the believer to reach good and to outrun evil. (Ad-Dailami)

896- يَهْرَمُ ابْنُ آدَمَ وَيَشِيْبُ مَعَهُ اثْنَتَانِ الحِرْصُ عَلَى المَالِ وَالحِرْصُ عَلَى العُمُرِ. مسلم و الترمذي

896. Bin Adam (the human being) ages and two things age with him: adherence to money and adherence to life. (Muslim and At-Tirmithi)

897- وَاللهِ مَا الفَقْرُ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَكِنْ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تُبْسَطَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا وَتُهْلِكُكُمْ كَمَا أَهْلَكَتْهُمْ. أحمد

897. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but I fear for you that the world will be spread out for you as it was spread out for those before you, and you will compete with each other for it as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them. (Ahmad)

898- مَنْ أَحَبَّ دُنْيَاهُ أَضَرَّ بِآخِرَتِهِ وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ آخِرَتَهُ أَضَرَّ بِدُنْيَاهُ فَآثِرُوا مَا يَبْقَى عَلَى مَا يَفْنَى. أحمد

898. He who loves his worldly life risks his afterlife; and he who loves his afterlife risks his worldly life; so prefer what remains to what vanishes. (Ahmad)

899- مَنْ أَصْبَحَ مِنْكُمْ آمِنَاً فِي سِرْبِهِ مُعَافَىً فِي جَسَدِهِ عِنْدَهُ قَوْتُ يَوْمِهِ فَكَأَنَّمَا حِيْزَّتْ لَهُ الدَّنْيَا بِحَذَافِيْرِهَا. البخاري و الترمذي

899. Whosoever wakes up in the morning secure in his home, healthy in his body, and has in his possession food enough for one day, it is as though the entire world has been gathered for him. (Al-Bukhari and At-Tirmithi)

900- الدُّنْيَا مَلْعُوْنَةٌ مَلْعُوْنٌ مَا فِيْهَا إِلَّا ذِكْرُ اللهِ وَمَا وَالاهُ وَعَالِمَاً أَوْ مُتَعَلِّمَاً. ابن ماجه

900. Life and what is in it are cursed except: the remembrance of Allah, its alike, the knowledgeable one, and the seeker of the knowledge. (Ibn Maajah)
